<p>Disruption of a terrorist plot to bomb airliners flying from the UK to the U.S. prompted the Transportation Security Administration this morning to raise the aviation sector <a href="http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/threat-change.shtm" target="_blank">threat condition</a> to high (orange) for all U.S. domestic airline flights and those bound to the U.S. from any foreign country except the UK. Flights to the U.S. originating from Great Britain are coded severe (red). Therefore, all aircraft operations conducted under Part 91, 91K and 135 traveling from the U.S. to the UK or vice versa will require an <a href="http://web.nbaa.org/public/ops/security/waivers/" target="_blank">international waiver</a> from the TSA. The FAA has also issued a change to <a href="http://web.nbaa.org/public/ops/airspace/restrictions/2006/200608105860.php" target="_blank">FDC Notam 5860</a> that removes the UK from the list of approved “portal countries.” According to a statement released by the TSA this morning, “Over the last few hours, British authorities have arrested a significant number of extremists engaged in a substantial plot to destroy multiple passenger aircraft flying from the UK to the U.S. Currently, there is no indication, however, of plotting within the U.S. We believe that these arrests have significantly disrupted the threat, but we cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted,” prompting the agency to raise the aviation threat level.</p>
