<p>The Gulfstream I that crashed on takeoff in Kenya was reportedly over gross weight for the airfield. Killed in the January 24 crash were the country’s labor minister and the two pilots. Nine other passengers were injured. The chartered 1965 twin turboprop (5Y-EMJ) failed to gain altitude and hit powerlines after taking off from the 3,200-foot unpaved runway at the airport in Busia, an airfield with a posted weight limit of 12,500 pounds mtow, according to Kenya’s transport minister. The mtow of a GI is 36,200 pounds.</p>
