Charles Alcock is managing editor of the AIN Media Group, having rejoined the company in 2019. He has been an aviation journalist since 1986, and previously worked for AIN from 1990 to 2017, most recently as editor-in-chief. His main focus is on covering new aviation technology and business models, as well as international news.
Having been raised in the London area, Alcock studied at the University of Manchester in the UK and earned an honors degree in Politics and Modern History. He speaks English and French, and some German.

The emergence of advanced air mobility (AAM), and its potential convergence with mainstream business aviation, will take a center stage at NBAA's Business Aviation Convention &amp; Exhibition next month in Las Vegas. More eVTOL aircraft developers are exhibiting than at previous shows, along with multiple other aviation manufacturers and technology specialists who are contributing to AAM programs worldwide.
Among the companies showing off their capabilities at the October 12-14 event will be the following: Bell, Honeywell, Rolls-Royce, Jaunt Air Mobility, Kitty Hawk, Samad Aerospace, the Northern Plains UAS Test Site, Overair, and XTI Aircraft.
In addition, a number of AAM-focused presentations are slated to take place, including a panel on October 13 that will explore federal perspectives on the new aviation technologies and business models&nbsp;from the perspectives of&nbsp; the FAA, NASA, and the U.S. Air Force. Moderated by former FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, the panel includes Steven Clarke, deputy associate administrator for NASA’s, Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate; Col. Nathan P. Diller, director of the U.S. AFWERX program that is focused on developing innovation; and Christopher Rocheleau, FAA acting associate administrator for aviation safety.
The leaders are anticipated to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities of integrating eVTOL aircraft&nbsp;into the current system and the need to work collaboratively on these issues.
“NBAA-BACE serves an important place to not only showcase innovation across our industry but to also discuss how these emerging technologies will be implemented,” said NBAA senior v-p of government affairs Christa Lucas. “We’re pleased to bring together these influential policymakers and thought leaders to host an important conversation about current work in the AAM space, how each agency is preparing and planning, and future policies and regulations in this space.”
In addition, Martine Rothblatt, NBAA’s Meritorious Service to Aviation Award recipient who plays a key role with multiple AAM companies, is a keynote speaker on the opening day of NBAA-BACE. Her United Therapeutics medical technology group intends to use eVTOL aircraft, such as Beta Technologies' Alia 250 model, for tasks such as transporting human organs for transplant operations.&nbsp;
