<p>Unmanned Aircraft System operators normally apply online through the FAA’s airspace access program when requesting expedited special government interest waivers to fly drones within restricted airspace for emergency situations, such as VIP movements, firefighting, media pool, and search-and-rescue. If the online program becomes unavailable, the FAA is requesting that a paper backup form be approved by the Office of Management and Budget under the paper reduction act. The form to support this backup method will gather essential information to evaluate whether: the requester has a valid purpose for the waiver; the proposed waiver can be executed safely; and the requester holds the appropriate licensing, certificate of registration, or other required credentials. Comments on the request are due by Aug. 8, 2025.</p>
