<p>The FAA is proposing to designate safety and security information, reports, data, and work products provided to the agency from the U.S. Aviation Safety Team (USAST) and its membership as protected material from public disclosure. This proposed designation is intended to encourage sharing of information between the FAA and the aviation industry that would contribute to development and implementation of safety enhancements. The agency said the voluntarily provided information described in this proposed designation “is critical to the FAA’s safety mission because it supports a proactive and collaborative, data-driven strategy to reduce the risk of fatal and nonfatal accidents.” If this proposal is passed, USAST information would be prevented from being disclosed even under a Freedom of Information Act request. Comments on the proposal are due by Sept. 2, 2025.</p>
