<p>The FAA requests comments regarding the importance of Midway Atoll Airport/Henderson Airfield (PMDY) for trans-Pacific Ocean aviation operations. Specifically, PMDY is required for airline routes over the Pacific Ocean involving extended range operations with two-engines (ETOPS). The airport is also available for emergency diversions by business jets. However, the FAA says PMDY’s infrastructure is “deteriorating and will require significant financial investments and rehabilitation within the next three to five years” to maintain its operational capability and compliance with airport certification and ETOPS requirements. The FAA is requesting responses to questions contained in this notice in order to better understand the potential impacts if PMDY were no longer available. Comments must be received by Sept. 22, 2026.</p>
