An Anchorage terminal area and procedures (ATAAPS) program is underway to address national security concerns and ATC inefficiencies within the Anchorage basin and surrounding airports. In connection with this program, the FAA has issued a draft environmental assessment for public comment. The proposed action focuses on “airspace optimization for aircraft routes and controlled airspace within the Anchorage basin and surrounding areas,” said the FAA. “RNAV-based SID and STAR procedures have been in effect in the Anchorage basin and surrounding areas for over 20 years. These arrival and departure procedures will be redesigned with advanced RNAV capabilities and will maintain safety and improve efficiency of the national airspace system, benefiting pilots, air traffic controllers, and the general public.” Comments on the draft environmental assessment are due by Nov. 9, 2026.
