The European Commission has launched a call for high-priority applied research to help shape the future regulatory framework&nbsp;of its planned&nbsp;Digital European Sky ATC management network.&nbsp;The&nbsp;request identifies&nbsp;research topics defined by EASA and an&nbsp;EU&nbsp;member state advisory board. Research themes sought&nbsp;include&nbsp;human operator role versus automation, including artificial intelligence&nbsp;and&nbsp;machine learning;&nbsp;single&nbsp;European&nbsp;sky airspace classifications; certification of novel air traffic management systems; methods for evaluating&nbsp;ATC and&nbsp;air navigation services;&nbsp;and&nbsp;ground equipment safety.&nbsp;Research proposals for the project are due by Sept. 16, 2025.
