<p>To address the continued growth and proliferation of uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), scaling of new, more complex operations, continued integration within Canadian airspace, and preparation for UAS traffic management, Transport Canada (TC) is proposing: remote ID requirements for UAS; new airspace tools for TC to better respond to UAS-specific needs that would ensure that the agency is able to quickly put in place airspace restrictions and constraints; and regulatory changes specific to recreational UAS organizations. A “community-based organization” model could allow recreational UAS organizations to apply to TC to operate under different requirements, including their own safety procedures when flying in fixed geographical areas. Additionally, TC is considering requiring “geo-awareness” functions on compatible UAS, “which would ensure that remote pilots digitally receive accurate and up-to-date airspace information through the introduction of geo-zones, and notifications of potential breaches of airspace.” Comments are due by Sept. 9, 2026.</p>
