Saudi Arabia Seeks To Bolster Defenses

In early October Saudi Arabia signaled an intention to buy Russia's top-of-the-line missile defense system, and one from the U.S. too.

Russia’s S-400 surface-to-air missile system is on Saudia Arabia’s shopping list, and the two countries have reached an agreement in principle for at least four batteries.

Two separate developments last month have underlined an effort by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to considerably enhance its air defense capabilities. The potential deals involved—one with the U.S. and one with Russia—also appeared to signal a desire by the Kingdom to keep its arms supply options open.
