Major helicopter manufacturers here in Paris are eagerly awaiting the expected release next month of a U.S. Air Force request for proposal (RFP) for a combat search-and-rescue helicopter to replace some 100 aging Sikorsky HH-60Gs. The RFP is expected to request 141 personnel recovery vehicles (PRVs) at a value of about $10 billion, with initial entry into service in 2011. Team US101, led by Lockheed Martin, is already lining up other partners to back its offering derived from the EH101, and Sikorsky and Boeing announced they would team up to offer a PRV based on the S-92. Bell Helicopter plans to offer a version of its V-22 Osprey tiltrotor, which it builds with Boeing. On its own, Boeing may also submit its CH-47G Chinook tandem-rotor helicopter.
