New contracts for Canada’s CMC Electronics (A1010) will see the company’s CMA2082F avionics management system supplied for the German air force’s Tornado mid-life improvement program and its CMA2082MH aircraft management systems installed on the Sikorsky CH-148 Cyclone helicopters for the Canadian Forces.

In December, meanwhile, CMC achieved prototype acceptance for the CP-140 Aurora navigation and flight instruments modernization project with Canada’s Department of National Defence. CMC is systems integrator on the $69.5 million program, which has so far seen three of the aircraft modified.

Deliveries of the CMA2082F, which was developed under a 2001 contact and is now the subject of a production contract for the German air force’s 85 Tornados, are due to begin in November and be completed by 2008. The system is a self-contained high-performance multifunction control and display unit with onboard mission processing. It integrates navigation sensors and radios, communication radios, displays and other avionics so that they can be managed and controlled centrally for reduced pilot workload with enhanced situational awareness and mission effectiveness.

CMC says the CMA-2082H’s PCI open architecture will make it easy for Sikorsky to implement full flight management system and communications management capability. The system will also act as a controller for the search and weather radar, the IFF and the self-defense system. Each of the planned 28 helicopters will have two aircraft management systems.
