A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Industry fuel provider Avfuel is once again on hand this week at NBAA-BACE 2025 to highlight its sustainability options. The Michigan-based company now provides consistent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supplies at 58 locations in the U.S., UK, and EU, providing more SAF to business aviation operations than any other fuel supplier.
Over the past year, Avfuel expanded its ISCC-certified SAF supply chain in the U.S. to now include distribution terminals in five states: Florida, New Jersey, Texas, Colorado, and California. Those terminals, in turn, feed retail locations in 14 states.
At its booth, the company is demonstrating its AvfuelZero sustainability platform, which launched two years ago and has expanded to include an online reporting capability and ISCC certification. This allows users to track and verify sustainability metrics through an internationally recognized system. AvfuelZero integrates emissions assessments, SAF, carbon offsetting, and reduction reporting into a single resource for measurable impact.
“AvfuelZero continues to grow as the most complete sustainability solution in business aviation offered by any fuel supply partner,” explained Keith Sawyer, Avfuel’s manager of alternative fuels. “It’s designed to make progress practical, helping our customers move from commitment to action.”
Sawyer discussed SAF during a panel on Tuesday as part of NBAA’s Business Aviation Sustainability Summit. On Wednesday, C.R. Sincock II, Avfuel’s executive v-p, will anchor a panel on “Preparing for the Sustainable Future: NextGen Infrastructure to Impact,” along with Joe Meszaros, v-p of operations at sister company Avflight;&nbsp;Eric Newman,&nbsp;Atlantic Aviation v-p of business development and sustainability;&nbsp;and Craig Teasdale, v-p operations for Vertiports by Atlantic.
Beyond talking the sustainability talk, Avfuel is also walking the walk. In addition to providing solutions to help operators in their decarbonization efforts, this year marks its fifth consecutive year of offsetting its Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as its fourth year of certification under NATA's Sustainability Standard for Aviation Businesses. It has maintained its Tier 2 Green Aviation Business certification for a second straight year and is the only fuel supplier to achieve that designation.
Exhibiting with Avfuel at this year’s NBAA-BACE are approximately 25 FBO members of its more than 700-strong branded dealer network, including some of its SAF distribution locations.
