A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. The HondaJet formerly owned by Michael Avenatti, who was convicted of defrauding ex-client Stormy Daniels, will be returning to the market, five years after federal agents <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2019-04-11/feds-nab-famous-attorneys-jet">seized it</a>.
Registered as N227WP, the light jet was <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2023-12-01/treasury-auction-planned-avenattis-hondajet">auctioned off</a> by the government late last year and purchased by a partnership that intended to share it for its own use. According to San Francisco-based aircraft brokerage Global Elite Aviation—which specializes in HondaJets and is handling the sale of this particular airplane—it was decided to put the twinjet on the market after one of the partners bowed out and the remaining owners couldn’t justify full ownership with their low annual usage.
Notably, N227WP has less than 400 total flight hours and has not flown since 2019. However, Threshold Aviation, the FBO at California’s Chino Airport (KCNO) where it was stored, ran its engines every month.
Global Elite founder and president Michelle Hoover told AIN the twinjet is being prepared for a cross-country ferry flight next week to the Honda Aircraft plant at Piedmont Triad International Airport (KGSP) in Greensboro, North Carolina, where it will undergo any maintenance needed to render it airworthy again. After a half-decade of inactivity, Hoover noted that it required three new tires before its return to flight.
N227WP is expected to be available for purchase by mid-May.
