Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

A vast majority of new entrants to the business aviation market appear to be sticking with private flying, according to the just-released "2023 Jet Card Report" from Private Jet Card Comparisons (PJCC). Some 95 percent of new entrants—those who began private flying during the Covid period—told PJCC that they are continuing to fly privately, with 43.2 percent of these respondents saying they are flying privately on a regular basis.
PJCC tracks flying, pricing, and other trends surrounding the jet card, membership, fractional ownership, and charter markets through subscriber surveys. The data in the new <a href="https://privatejetcardcomparisons.com/product/jet-card-marketing-research-industry-analysis-report-2021/">318-page report</a> is derived from responses of more than 1,000 private flyers who discussed preferences for programs, what they bought, how much they spent, and whether they are satisfied. Respondents specifically revealed what they want from private aviation flight providers regarding program rules and policies.
According to those responses, new flyers tend to fly privately exclusively for leisure purposes more frequently (54.9 percent), while existing flyers—those in the market pre-pandemic—are more likely to use private aviation for both business and personal travel (53 percent).
Overall, the data point to a market that will remain on the upswing. Surveys show that flyers have expected to slightly increase their time in the air, from 41.3 hours in private aviation in 2022 to 42.4 hours this year; 33.5 percent said they are flying privately more than before the pandemic. The number of flyers planning on at least 75 or more flight hours over the next year increased by 26.6 percent.
“While some predicted the new wave of private flyers would quickly move back to the airlines, that hasn’t happened,” said PJCC&nbsp;founder and editor-in-chief&nbsp;Doug Gollan. “Despite supply-chain and labor challenges, this research shows that once consumers experience private aviation, they are very likely to stick with it.”
