A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Oklahoma-based Intercontinental Jet Service Corp (ISJC) has received an STC for Hartzell’s four-bladed scimitar aluminum prop installations on the Mitsubishi MU-2 turboprop twin.

 


In addition to being an authorized Mitsubishi MU-2 service center, ISJC is a Hartzell recommended service facility. The service provider's&nbsp;new STC replaces the steel prop hub installation with lighter weight hubs and blades, saving 17 pounds&nbsp;per engine and improving performance. The modification is applicable to more than 260 aircraft including the MU-2B, -26A, -40, -36A, and -60 models.

 


The lighter weight aluminum hub propellers have an extended TBO of 4,000 hours/six years, whichever occurs first, an improvement of 500 hours/one year over the previous steel hub props.

 


The $85,000 kit includes installation; larger, custom polished aluminum spinners; propeller to engine rigging; and dynamic balance with existing propeller trade-in.

 


“Intercontinental Jet and Hartzell collaborated closely on this project and we are pleased that many MU-2 operators now have an opportunity for better performance with a much more economical and convenient time between overhaul with this STC,” said Harzell president JJ Frigge. “Hartzell’s scimitar design delivers optimized performance, reduced noise signature, and better fuel efficiency.”
