A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

West Star Aviation’s aircraft maintenance facility at Missouri’s Perryville Regional Airport has earned its FAA Part 145 maintenance repair station certification. The authorization process took 18 months to complete the FAA requirements.

 


“It is with great honor that we received this certification and take pride in offering our continued experience and quality workmanship that our customers expect,” said Kyle French, the location’s general manager.

 


The Perryville location is the last of West Star’s large service centers to earn its FAA authorization, joining its facilities in East Alton, Illinois; Grand Junction, Colorado; and Chattanooga, Tennessee.

 


Starting tomorrow at East Alton, in honor of National Apprenticeship Week, the company will partner with the Madison County Career and Technical Education Office and Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) to host a two-day event that will allow students to visit the facility, learn about aviation maintenance careers, and inquire about the company’s new AMT apprenticeship program, conducted in conjunction with a two-year aviation maintenance technology course at SWIC.

 


The event will include lunch, a tour of the complex, and a presentation from current West Star employees and management. College representatives will be on hand to provide information about college life&nbsp;and cost.

 


“We are always looking for ways to expand our hiring programs while exposing potential graduates to the corporate aviation industry,” said Katie Johnson, West Star’s vice president of human resources.
