Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association is planning to host three “grand” two-day fly-ins as it celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2019. The fly-ins will be held on May 10-11 at Frederick Municipal Airport in Maryland; June 21-22 at Livermore Municipal Airport in California; and September 13-14 at Tullahoma Regional Airport in Tennessee.

 


The events, running all day on the scheduled Fridays and Saturdays, will have expanded exhibit hours, seminars, workshops, aircraft displays, and aerial demonstrations. Special events on the schedule include a Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) Invitational Competition that is designed to highlight aircraft used in backcountry flying, as well as a Friday night aviator’s party.

 


The event in Frederick, home of AOPA’s headquarters, takes place less than a week before AOPA officially reaches its 80th anniversary on May 15.&nbsp;During that event, the D-Day Squadron’s C-47s are slated to make an appearance as they prepare to travel to Normandy, France, for the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

 


“In honor of AOPA’s 80th anniversary, the 2019 fly-ins are sure to be an unforgettable experience for all aviators, family,&nbsp;and friends,” said Chris Eads, AOPA senior director of outreach and events.

 


AOPA has hosted 24 fly-ins in 20 states since moving to the regional format in 2014. The events have drawn 92,541 attendees in their first five years.&nbsp;

Three two-day fly-ins are scheduled for 2019, with events scheduled in California and Tennessee, in addition to AOPA's home airport in Frederick, Maryland.
