Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

Satcom Direct (SD, Booth 2005) is expanding its professional training offerings for the Brazilian market. The company, which specializes in business aviation connectivity, recently wrapped up an initial round of four-hour workshops that provided an overview of using the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) through the SD Flight Deck Freedom datalink communications service to increase situational awareness, security, and safety. The materials, delivered in Portuguese, were designed to help engage flight crews.

 


Based on the success of that round, SD is following up with courses that could cover an array of topics, such as electronic flight logs, flight-planning tools, and flight data analysis. SD is working with Brazilian aviation authorities to obtain formal recognition of the educational program. This recognition is anticipated by the end of the year.

 


“Understanding the full power of our flight deck offerings can really enhance the pilot experience, so we’ve designed our local courses to provide useful, practical, and relevant information,” said Ewerton Libanio, managing director of SD Brazil, adding the courses are offered for free and are designed to elevate a pilot’s career profile and raise industry standards. “Our approach is to educate and empower our colleagues by delivering a range of technology knowledge.”

 


The Brazilian pilot courses expand on SD’s portfolio of connectivity courses and certification programs. Working with CompTIA, it offers an aeroIT certification program for professionals in&nbsp;IT, management and aviation networking. The program involves a four-day course focused on satellite networks, network theory, troubleshooting aircraft networks, and network management. The program can count toward eight FAA Inspector Authorization credits.

 


Other certification programs include a two-day aeroCNCT course designed to increase cabin crew and flight department knowledge of onboard connectivity. SD further has developed a certified CyberSAFE training course covering network vulnerabilities and risk mitigation.

 


Beyond its training courses, Satcom Direct said it is experiencing growing demand for a range of connectivity services and product lines, from its LTE Hub targeted for helicopters and small jets up through Jet ConneX Ka-band. In addition to showcasing its product lines at LABACE, it will provide demonstrations of its security solutions, as well as information on its training programs.
