Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

Duncan Aviation’s Battle Creek, Michigan, facility recently completed the first installation of a LoPresti Aviation BoomBeam high intensity discharge (HID) lighting system on an Embraer Phenom 300. The BoomBeam HID upgrade, which is engineered for each model aircraft, can produce up to 15 times more light than traditional incandescent lighting systems, Duncan said.

 


HID systems also reduce electrical load and heat output and decrease lighting-related AOG time because there are no filaments. LoPresti's system, which comes with a five-year/5,000-hour warranty, is designed with a color to more closely match natural daylight.

 


The Phenom 300 landing and taxi light upgrade increased the four-light system to a six-light system, providing an extended range of visibility. Luke Krepsky, aircraft manager with the Phenom 300's operator, Exec Aire, said the increased visibility will benefit the Stevens Point, Wisconsin-based company’s operations.

 


“Our airport has a deer issue…several times I have had deer just within view on the side of the runway, too late to react if they would have been in my path,” he said. “My very first night operation with the new system, after being amazed with the view of the runway, I was greeted by four deer crossing the taxiway in front of the aircraft. They would not have been visible with the stock lights, and I was able to warn the inbound aircraft of the potential deer near the threshold.”

 


Duncan worked with LoPresti engineers to obtain an installation deviation approval to avoid removing the aircraft fairings. “The paint design on this Phenom has four different colors, some which are hard to match,” explained Duncan Aviation project manager Mark Davis. “So it was important to the customer to keep the fairings in place, therefore keeping the integrity of his paint scheme intact.”
