Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

The White House formally has nominated Robert Sumwalt to become the 14th chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, a move that would make permanent the position he has held in an acting capacity since the end of March. The nomination, sent to the Senate in late June, would be for a two-year term. The White House previously this spring also had formally re-nominated Sumwalt to another five-year term. The confirmation of his re-nomination awaits full Senate action.

 


A pilot for 32 years who has amassed more than 14,000 flight hours, Sumwalt became the 37th member of the NTSB in August 2006.&nbsp;He previously has served as vice chairman.

 


Sumwalt brings a background in business aviation, formerly managing a small flight department for a utility company in South Carolina.&nbsp;He is a former member of NBAA’s Safety Committee and has been a frequent participant at NBAA safety events, NBAA said, praising his wealth of knowledge and focus on safety leadership.

 


“Robert is a stalwart advocate of safety, not only for business aviation, but for all of aviation,” said NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen. “His strong leadership and the resulting increase in implementation of safety programs benefits aircraft operators, travelers and the greater transportation industry.”
