Lombardo covers business aviation maintenance-related issues. He is also a writer and on-air reporter for AINtv. He has over 3000 articles published and is the author of several books on aircraft systems for pilots and on the topic of flight simulation.
He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from the University of Illinois, has taught aviation for over 35 years in industry and as a university professor and academic dean at three different universities. He is also a frequent seminar and after-dinner motivational speaker.&nbsp;
Lombardo holds an A&amp;P Certificate, ATP, CFI and Ground Instructor ratings. He was a corporate pilot and was a research pilot and flight instructor at the University of Illinois. An FAA Safety Counselor for over 25 years, he was one of the original 13 Counselors appointed to the FAA’s Airworthiness Safety Program for maintenance technicians.&nbsp;

FAI Asset Management has begun construction of a third hangar—to be known as Hangar 8 and used for aircraft maintenance—at Albrecht Dürer Airport in Nuremberg, Germany. The $6.7 million project will result in a 51,600-sq-ft facility, including 48,400 sq ft of dedicated maintenance hangar space and 3,200 sq ft dedicated to administrative offices. Designed in-house by FAI CEO Siegfried Axtmann, the building will mirror the existing FAI properties in style, and like the rest of the facility, it will be carbon neutral. The project’s progress can be watched via a <a href="http://80.150.143.30/index.php">construction cam</a> located on FAI’s main building.

 


When Hangar 8 goes into service, scheduled for March 2017, FAI's on-airport complex will total approximately 150,700 sq ft. The additional space will be used for line maintenance work across a range of aircraft, including FAI’s Bombardier fleet.

 


FAI Technik, the in-house maintenance division of FAI Group, specializes in Bombardier base and line maintenance. It has completed several heavy maintenance 8C and 12C checks on the Bombardier Global Express, including cabin refurbishments and modifications. The team has also worked through a number of 96- and 192-month inspections on Challenger 604s, as well as 12-year/12,000-hour inspections across the Learjet family.
