Charles Alcock is managing editor of the AIN Media Group, having rejoined the company in 2019. He has been an aviation journalist since 1986, and previously worked for AIN from 1990 to 2017, most recently as editor-in-chief. His main focus is on covering new aviation technology and business models, as well as international news.
Having been raised in the London area, Alcock studied at the University of Manchester in the UK and earned an honors degree in Politics and Modern History. He speaks English and French, and some German.

Business aviation in Jordan continues to grow at a modest rate, according to new research commissioned by the Middle East and North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA) ahead of the group’s conference today in the Jordanian capital. The research, conducted by Germany-based WingX Advance, showed that while there has been almost no growth in the number of active and registered business jets in Jordan since 2000, the number of operators in the country has increased at an annual rate of 2.7 percent. On this basis, MEBAA estimates that the industry in Jordan will be worth $1 billion per year by 2020. The WingX numbers show 2.2-percent growth in flights by Jordanian aircraft, giving the country a 6.5-percent share of the Middle East market for professionally operated business aircraft flights.

 


The keynote speaker for the MEBAA Conference is HE Capt. Mohammed Amin Al-Quran, chief commissioner and CEO of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission. Other speakers include Bashir Abdel Hadi, director of Jordan’s Royal Flight; and Ayla Aviation Academy CEO Marwan Atallah. “Today, Jordan is still making steady progress and is one of four [Middle Eastern] countries whose industry has grown in the last year. Its renovation of Queen Alia Airport will only help provide improved infrastructure to support business aviation and we are delighted to be in Jordan to support and promote its progression,” said MEBAA chairman Ali Al Naqbi.
