Gulfstream Aerospace will break ground on a new product-support distribution center in Savannah, Ga., late this month or early next. It is scheduled to enter service early next year. The new facility, announced yesterday, will house more than 300 employees and approximately $900 million in parts and materials inventory.


Derek Zimmerman, v-p for product support materials, told AIN, “The main distribution point for the Gulfstream Product Support organization’s parts and materials inventory has always been in Savannah, where Gulfstream headquarters are located. Gulfstream is simply moving its parts and materials to a new building. We are also continuing to expand our distribution sites around the world, with recent additions or expansions in Brazil, China, Hong Kong and India.”


Gulfstream has more than $1.4 billion in parts and materials at some 20 facilities around the world. The new 406,000-sq-ft structure will be consolidating two leased facilities totaling 250,000 sq ft. “In addition to the significant growth in floor space, new equipment and processes will allow us to expand vertically, further increasing our storage density,” Zimmerman said. “The new facility will have more parts and materials capacity and include state-of-the-art technology that will enable us to distribute parts faster and more efficiently.”
