Less than a week after touting his company’s accomplishments at Heli-Expo 2013, Eurocopter CEO Dr. Lutz Bertling, 50, has resigned effective April 30, parent company EADS announced this morning. He joined Eurocopter in 2003 and became CEO in 2006. During his tenure, Eurocopter’s sales nearly doubled to $8.3 billion.

Bertling is joining Bombardier’s $9 billion rail car division as CEO and will be based in Germany. Bombardier CEO Pierre Beaudoin said Bertling “has the talent and drive to meet our present and future challenges.” Bertling worked at Adtranz, DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems, between 1993 and 1999 after receiving his doctorate in mechanical engineering.

EADS moved quickly to name his replacement, Guillaume Faury, 45, a senior executive at French automaker Peugeot. A licensed flight engineer, Faury was Eurocopter executive vice president for research and development until 2008 and began his career at the French Defense Procurement Agency, where he was in charge of Tiger helicopter flight-test. He holds an engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique and an aeronautics and engineering degree from the National Aerospace School at Toulouse.
