Chad started his writing career at The Avion,&nbsp;the&nbsp;student newspaper at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, serving as editor-in-chief before graduating with a bachelor's in aeronautical science. After a stint as managing editor at Professional Pilot&nbsp;magazine, he joined&nbsp;AIN in late 1998. Gulfstream Aerospace selected Securaplane’s lithium-ion battery as standard equipment on its new G650. The multimillion-dollar deal marks the first time a Gulfstream aircraft will feature the technology, which is some 50-percent lighter than conventional NiCad or lead-acid batteries and carries a higher energy density. The subsidiary of UK-based Meggitt said the weight reduction per shipset equates to nearly one passenger. The Securaplane system includes the main ship, emergency and flight control backup batteries with integral charging and control electronics.
