“We’ve outgrown our current facility and need more room for our guests,” said Banyan Air Service president Don Campion. The plans call for a new 25,000-sq-ft terminal building more centrally located off the main taxiway at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE), Fla. Groundbreaking will be early next year, with construction scheduled to be completed within 12 months. The new building will take better advantage of the FBO’s 85-acre leasehold on the airport, said Campion, with expanded ramp space offering two to three times as much open space as the current layout.
The new terminal will have a “Key West” décor, featuring a control-tower-cab look over the main airside door, topped with a windsock. The two-story complex will include a 2,800-sq-ft customer lobby with a 35-foot-long reception desk. There will be a separate television room; private pilot lounge; snooze room; separate full-size bunk room; showers; weather and flight-planning room; two conference rooms; business center; public telephone terminals; coffee/vending area; baggage holding area; six restrooms; and 22 separate private offices.
