Matt Thurber, editor-in-chief at AIN Media Group, has been flying since 1975 and writing about aviation since 1978 and now has the best job in the world, running editorial operations for Aviation International News, Business Jet Traveler, and FutureFlight.aero. In addition to working as an A&amp;P mechanic on everything from Piper Cubs to turboprops, Matt taught flying at his father’s flight school in Plymouth, Mass., in the early 1980s, flew for an aircraft owner/pilot, and for two summer seasons hunted swordfish near the George’s Banks off the East Coast from a Piper Super Cub. An ATP certificated fixed-wing pilot and CFII and commercial helicopter pilot, Matt is type-rated in the Citation 500 and Gulfstream V/550. Based in the Pacific Northwest, Matt and his team cover the entire aviation scene including business aircraft, helicopters, avionics, safety, manufacturing, charter, fractionals, technology, air transport, advanced air mobility, defense, and other subjects of interest to AIN, BJT, and FutureFlight readers.

Last year was the first National Air Transportation Association (NATA) FBO Leadership Conference, following the association’s splitting its annual conference into two parts, one for FBO-focused members and the other aimed at serving the charter industry. This year’s FBO Leadership Conference takes place in Dallas from March 17 through 20, as part of the annual Aviation Industry Expo show, which also features a maintenance track at the first Annual Aircraft Maintenance Summit and events serving the civil and military ground-service industry.
Missing this year is the annual Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) conference, which is no longer part of Aviation Industry Expo. Unfortunately, this means an end to the annual PAMA Chili Cook-Off, for many years one of the most popular events at this show. In a letter to members, PAMA president John Casker and chairman Clark Gordon wrote, “We want members to know that this was not PAMA’s decision. Cygnus Business Media [which owns the Aviation Industry Expo] disengaged PAMA from the event.” Cygnus’ AMTSociety is now providing maintenance-related content at the Aviation Industry Expo, under the Annual Aircraft Maintenance Summit banner. PAMA plans to host its own series of regional maintenance shows.
