<p>Made up primarily of operators at Hanscom Field (BED) outside Boston, a new local business aviation group has formed. According to NBAA regional representative Dean Saucier, the group has been active in dealing with local political and economic issues, as well as issues relating to ATC. Massport, the port authority that controls BED, also operates Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).</p>
<p>Aviation tenants at BED received some good news late last year when the Massachusetts Office of Environmental Affairs issued a certificate for the draft of the airport’s environmental status and planning report. The certificate clears the way for planned improvements at the airport. The office cleared the report, stating that it “adequately and properly complies with the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act.” Though local residents oppose improvements at BED, the certificate acknowledges that the report adequately addressed issues of noise, air quality, wetland preservation, wildlife conservation, water quality and cultural and historical resources. The airport is near the historic Freedom Trail, along which the Colonial army marched from Lexington to Concord where the “shot heard ’round the world” was fired.</p>
