Lombardo covers business aviation maintenance-related issues. He is also a writer and on-air reporter for AINtv. He has over 3000 articles published and is the author of several books on aircraft systems for pilots and on the topic of flight simulation.
He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from the University of Illinois, has taught aviation for over 35 years in industry and as a university professor and academic dean at three different universities. He is also a frequent seminar and after-dinner motivational speaker.&nbsp;
Lombardo holds an A&amp;P Certificate, ATP, CFI and Ground Instructor ratings. He was a corporate pilot and was a research pilot and flight instructor at the University of Illinois. Standard Aero has entered a five-year purchase agreement with Pratt &amp; Whitney Canada for 500 aircraft engines as part of its PT6A-135A, -42 and -52 upgrade program. 
The engine upgrades offer performance gains such as increased cruise speed and rate of climb, according to Eva Azoulay, Pratt &amp; Whitney Canada director for commercial service centers. More than 5,000 aircraft are currently operated in the U.S. that could potentially receive an upgrade. 
Standard Aero released specs indicating that after the upgrade, at 28,000 feet, the Cheyenne I would see true airspeeds of up to 272 knots, an 18-percent increase. 
Standard Aero recently announced upgrade STCs for the Cheyenne I/IA/ II/IIXL and King Air F90. As part of its STC program, Standard Aero anticipates announcing additional certification for other airframes, including the King Air 200/B200 and Caravan.
