Since 1986 Harry Weisberger has been a contributor to Aviation International News and a regular member of its HAI and NBAA convention news editorial staff. He was previously a marketing communications specialist for Sperry Flight Systems in Phoenix, providing information involving the general aviation, airline, defense and space market segments. His aviation journalism activity has also included writing and editing for Flight Training, Business Aviation Safety Journal, Private Pilot and Arizona Flyways (for whom he interviewed Barry Goldwater and Paul Tibbets. He has also contributed to Smithsonian Air &amp; Space and Aero magazines. He served 5-1/2 years on active duty with the U.S. Navy as a radar intercept officer in F4 Phantom jet fighters, followed by Naval Air Reserve duty as a patrol plane navigator. Weisberger’s journalism career began at the Santa Ana Register (now Orange County Register) where he was a beat reporter and copy desk editor. He holds a commercial pilot license with instrument rating, has logged 1,980 pilot hours and has owned or been a partner in five general aviation aircraft.

Arinc Direct’s FAA Part 145 certified repair station at the Scottsdale, Ariz. airport is now a factory authorized service center for the Piaggio Avanti and Avanti II. Arinc Direct Scottsdale becomes only the second Part 145 repair center in the U.S. to earn the Piaggio factory service authorization, according to Piaggio. Arinc Direct is at NBAA’06 Booth No. 758 with details on its services and capabilities.

The Arinc Direct repair facility in Scottsdale serves corporate and regional aircraft, offering virtually every type of maintenance including A through D checks, 24-hour AOG (aircraft-on-ground) service, oxygen, nitrogen and air-conditioning service. The facility, located at the Scottsdale Air Center, performs structural repairs and modifications, avionics support and installation, avionics integration and interior refurbishment. A hangar expansion to 40,000 sq ft is planned later this year.

The Avanti II is produced by Piaggio Aero Industries of Genoa, Italy, parent company of Piaggio America, West Palm Beach, Fla. It is powered by Pratt &amp; Whitney Canada PT6A-66 engines and features Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics.
