FAA Demotes Pakistan to Category 2, Banning PIA from U.S.

The Federal Aviation Administration moves to bar Pakistani carriers from flying into the U.S.

The Federal Aviation Administration has assigned Pakistan a Category 2 rating because it does not comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety standards under the FAA’s International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program, the agency said Wednesday. The move effectively bars any Pakistani airline from flying into the U.S. or participating in a code-share relationship with a U.S. carrier. Currently, no airlines operate regularly scheduled flights between Pakistan and the U.S.
