Aircraft data collection and analysis is taking center stage for UTC Aerospace Systems this week at the Farnborough Airshow.

 


First, the company introduced a compact form factor of its InteliSight Aircraft Data Management (ADM) platform, which collects fleet data for commercial operators. The compact version enables rapid installation of the platform’s Aircraft Interface Device and Tablet Interface Management hardware, allowing completion “within hours, or overnight at the gate to accommodate the operator’s schedule,” according to UTC.

 


An airline’s entire fleet can thus be connected to its network within days, immediately providing an operator with data including aircraft position for moving map, access to fuel and performance information, and recording and transmission of aircraft flight data. Flight crews can use InteliSight’s data for flight planning, improving the passenger experience and potentially reducing fuel costs.

 


With the rapid deployment option in place, airlines can upgrade to the full InteliSight platform during regular maintenance checks. The rapid installation is certified for the Boeing 737 under EASA and FAA Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) with validation anticipated in the coming weeks.

 


UTC (Chalet B30; Hall 4, Stand F101) also announced Hawaiian Airlines will extend its InteliSight deployment to its new fleet of 18 Airbus A321neos. Additionally, UTC said All Nippon Airways (ANA) will join the pilot program for Ascentia, UTC's advanced prognostics and health management solution, for its B787 fleet. Ascentia will provide full-flight data analytics, near-real-time analysis, and proactive maintenance recommendations, aimed at decreasing unscheduled maintenance events and improving dispatch reliability.&nbsp;

 


UTC also announced the opening of a new Intelligent Aircraft Technologies Lab in the U.S., dedicated to the accelerated development of more intelligent and connected aircraft systems. The lab’s initial focus will be on health monitoring solutions for generators, air compressors, fans, and motor controllers.

 


On the defense side, the company also revealed it has signed a contract with KAES Hanwha to provide the main electric power generation system to Korea Aerospace Industries for its in-development FK-X advanced multirole fighter jet, expected to enter service in the mid-2020s.
