Thierry Dubois is a freelance writer specializing in helicopters, business aviation and aerospace technology. He earned a degree in fluid dynamics from an engineering school in Toulouse, France in the mid-1990s. At an unexpected crossroads, he found his first job in journalism. In 1997, he started working for French aerospace weekly Air &amp; Cosmos in Paris. This lasted until 2000, when he moved south to Lyons. He then became a freelancer, working for various aerospace publications and has been part of the AIN team since late 2000. In addition to writing about business aviation, Thierry shares responsibility for the rotorcraft section. He also is a regular on-site writer for AIN’s daily editions at international airshows such as the Paris, Farnborough, Dubai and Singapore shows, as well as at EBACE in Geneva.
In 2007, he won the Honeywell award for “Best systems or technology submission” at the Aerospace journalist of the year awards. In 2013, he won an Aerospace Media Award for the "Best Safety, Training &amp; Simulation Submission."
In other activities, Thierry moderates international conferences on aviation technology topics. Thierry is married and has three children, who seem to begin enjoying the mountains–as their parents do.

Embraer has announced a string of orders this week here at Farnborough International 2014, for a total of 158 regional jets (if all options were exercised). The most prominent one came from Trans States Holdings, the parent company of Trans States Airlines, Compass Airlines and GoJet Airlines, for 50 E175-E2 airliners, plus an option for an additional 50. Its first E175 is expected to enter service in 2020.


Yesterday, Brazilian low-cost carrier Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras signed a letter of intent for 30 E195-E2s and additional purchase rights for another 20. The firm order, valued at up to $3.1 billion at list price, is expected to be inked by the fourth quarter of this year. The deliveries will begin in 2019 and will be spread over four to five years.


Meanwhile Embraer said that Fuji Dream Airlines of Japan has ordered three E175s and taken options for an additional three. The order was already appearing in Embraer's backlog, in the “undisclosed customer” category. It is valued at $256.8 million at list price, including options. Fuji's E175 will be configured with 84 seats, single class. They will be equipped with the Autoland system for CAT III approach and landing in limited visibility.


Azerbaijan Airlines also has signed a firm order for two E190s, which were also listed as an “undisclosed customer” previously. This contract is valued at $95.4 million.


Finally, Embraer announced that Morocco-based Royal Air Maroc is to become a new operator, with four E190s leased from Aldus Aviation. Delivered from the second half of this year, they will feature 12 business class and 84 economy seats.


“[With these three new E2 jets] we can cover a bigger market space than with our current family,” said Luís Carlos Affonso, senior v-p of operations and COO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.
