As a result of findings from US Airways Flight 1549–which lost power in both engines after hitting a flock of Canada Geese and successfully ditched in the Hudson River on January 15, 2009–the NTSB issued the following 25 recommendations to the FAA on May 21:

• Work with the military, manufacturers and NASA to complete the development of a technology capable of informing pilots about the continuing operational status of an engine. Once this engine technology has been developed, require its implementation on transport-category airplane engines equipped with Fadec engine controls.
