Bombardier finally received its long-awaited launch order from Deutsche Lufthansa for its C Series airliners, the Canadian manufacturer announced today. The contract involves a $1.53 billion “firm purchase agreement” for 30 of the smaller, CS100 (formerly C110) version of the 110- to 145-seat pair of jets.

The Lufthansa Group served as the launch customer for the airplane when it signed a letter of interest for up to 60 of the airplanes, including options on 30, during last July’s Farnborough Airshow. Speculation about when Bombardier would secure a firm order has run rampant ever since, however, frustrating a tight-lipped C Series braintrust while the supervisory board at Lufthansa took about nine months to finally seal the deal.
