Charles Alcock is managing editor of the AIN Media Group, having rejoined the company in 2019. He has been an aviation journalist since 1986, and previously worked for AIN from 1990 to 2017, most recently as editor-in-chief. His main focus is on covering new aviation technology and business models, as well as international news.
Having been raised in the London area, Alcock studied at the University of Manchester in the UK and earned an honors degree in Politics and Modern History. He speaks English and French, and some German.

The number of passengers carried by members of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) increased by 7.2 percent in the first three quarters of 2002, compared with the January through September period in 2001. The number of revenue passenger miles grew by 7.7 percent over the same period, according to figures released by ERA in early December. The new statistics also show that, for the first time, turbofan-powered aircraft now form the majority of the ERA fleet at 52 percent of the total. As of the end of 2001, turboprop equipment accounted for 53 percent of the total. During the first three quarters of last year, the average sector distance flown by ERA carriers dropped to 282 nm from 286 nm in 2001. However, the average sector time increased by one minute, to 1 hr 11 min. Over the same periods, the percentage of ERA flights departing on time improved from 60 percent to 65 percent. The number of flights departing within 15 min of their scheduled departure improved from 82 percent to 86 percent, while those leaving within one hour reached 98 percent from 97 percent in the previous year. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;–C.A.
