Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Shuttle America will sever all ties with US Airways effective October 2, leaving four more destinations without scheduled service from Pittsburgh International Airport. Last month Shuttle America ended all service between Fort Wayne and Pittsburgh, and between Bedford, Mass., and Trenton, N.J. The airline cited weak market conditions and price wars between US Airways and its competitors at Philadelphia International Airport for its decision to abandon the Bedford-Trenton route.
In the case of Pittsburgh, US Airways’ decision to significantly reduce its presence from that airport would mean a cut in service for Shuttle America as well, along with a commensurate loss of revenue. The airline had already planned to let the leases on nine Saab 340s lapse, leaving it with only 11 airplanes. In all, Shuttle America will abandon 12 routes from Pittsburgh.
