A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Airports in the Caribbean countries of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados&nbsp;remain closed after La Soufrière, a volcano on Saint Vincent, roared to life over the weekend for the first time since the late 1970s, blanketing the island’s lush landscape in a layer of ash&nbsp;and blocking out the sun.

 


Argyle International Airport on Saint&nbsp;Vincent, as well as Canouan Airport, which serves other islands in the Grenadines, remain closed, hindering relief efforts including the delivery of fresh water, which is in desperately short supply due to interrupted flow and the contamination of reservoirs.

 


Power on Saint Vincent was also interrupted as a result of the eruptions on the northern side of the island, which could go on for weeks according to scientists, who believe the 4,084-foot volcano is following the same pattern it did during its 1902 eruption that&nbsp;caused massive damage to the island and claimed the lives of 1,600 people.

 


While no deaths were reported from the latest eruptions and the resulting pyroclastic flow of superheated gases, lava rock, and ash, thousands of residents were evacuated from neighborhoods&nbsp;inundated with ash from plumes that rose more than 40,000 feet.

 


Prevailing winds carried the dense ash clouds 120 miles east, covering&nbsp;Barbados’s capital of Bridgetown and its Grantley Adams International Airport, which will be closed at least until Friday.
