Lombardo covers business aviation maintenance-related issues. He is also a writer and on-air reporter for AINtv. He has over 3000 articles published and is the author of several books on aircraft systems for pilots and on the topic of flight simulation.
He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from the University of Illinois, has taught aviation for over 35 years in industry and as a university professor and academic dean at three different universities. He is also a frequent seminar and after-dinner motivational speaker.&nbsp;
Lombardo holds an A&amp;P Certificate, ATP, CFI and Ground Instructor ratings. He was a corporate pilot and was a research pilot and flight instructor at the University of Illinois. A study released recently by Boeing predicts a need for 466,650 pilots and 596,500 maintenance personnel worldwide over the next 20 years, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for 180,000 and 220,000, respectively. China will experience the greatest need for pilots and maintenance personnel at 70,600 and 96,400, respectively. 
North America will need 97,350 pilots and 137,000 maintenance workers; Europe 94,800 and 122,000; Africa 13,200 and 15,000; the Middle East 32,700 and 44,500; Latin America 37,000 and 44,000; and the CIS will need 11,000 pilots and 14,000 maintenance personnel. According to the report, air carriers will hire more than 23,000 pilots and 30,000 mechanics a year through 2029.&nbsp; &nbsp;
“When you add up all the numbers, you quickly understand the issues facing this industry,” said Roei Ganzarski, chief customer officer for Boeing Training and Flight Services. “Our challenge is adapting our training to engage the future generation of people who will fly and maintain the more than 30,000 airplanes that will be delivered by 2029.”
