Hamilton Sundstrand has won a contact from China's Comac to provide the electric power generation and distribution systems for the 150- to 190-seat C919 narrowbody, the Windsor Locks, Conn.-based supplier announced today. Hamilton Sundstrand places the value of the work at more than $1 billion over the life of the program. 

Hamilton Sundstrand traces its roots in the Chinese aviation market to its participation in the MA60 turboprop starting in 1985. Today, it serves as a major systems supplier on Comac's 90-seat ARJ21 regional jet, providing the electric power system, including the APS2600 auxiliary power unit; the ram air turbine; the high-lift actuation system, which includes flap and slat actuators, drive train, power drive units and controllers; fire-protection systems; and the electrical power generation, primary distribution and emergency power system.

The Hamilton Sundstrand award comes barely a week after Comac awarded Parker Hannifin and Honeywell separate supply contracts for the new airliner. Comac and China Aviation Industry Systems Company (AVIC Systems) held a contract-signing ceremony on April 14 in Nanjing naming Parker Hannifin the provider of the fuel, inerting and hydraulic systems for the C919. Parker and AVIC Systems also signed a joint venture calling for joint development and in-country support of Parker's hydraulic and fuel systems.

Honeywell, meanwhile, won the contract to supply its 131-9[C9C] auxiliary power unit (APU) and associated equipment for the C919. In addition to the 131-9[C9C] APU, the award includes a Honeywell starter/generator system and installation kit. That contract calls for Honeywell to collaborate on the C919 program with AVIC Harbin Dongan Engine (Group) Corporation.
