Trelleborg is showcasing polymer technologies&nbsp;for aerospace and advanced air mobility (AAM) at the Paris Airshow, specifically sealing products for cabins and interiors, airframes and structures, energy management systems, propulsion, controls, and actuation.
Trelleborg manufactures a range of components for functional and aesthetic interior aerospace applications such as storage bins, light fittings, and air conditioning nozzles and bezels.&nbsp;At Paris, the company&nbsp;will feature its Turcon&nbsp;VL Seal&nbsp;II, used for hydraulic sealing of actuators in flight controls and landing gear and seals in landing gear shock absorbers. Evolved from its predecessor Turcon&nbsp;VL Seal, this second-generation product has enhanced sealing efficiency, easier installation, and greater reliability. Zero-leakage performance means an extended service life and minimized planned maintenance.
“During the five-year development period, we undertook analysis including rapid multimillion-cycle testing on an advanced test bench that achieves pressure rise rates of up to 360,000 psi per second and enables accelerated high-frequency cycling up to 5 Hz&nbsp;under maximum pressure or extreme temperature conditions,” said Torben Andersen, Trelleborg director aerospace segment.
To support reliable function&nbsp;of high-performance electrical systems in AAM vehicles, Trelleborg has engineered technologies&nbsp;that provide electromagnetic shielding, spark resistance, and protection from multiple environmental factors. The products also enable&nbsp;sealing of high-voltage batteries to allow inexpensive, automated assembly and simplified disassembly for maintenance. Finally, Trelleborg’s thermal management seals prevent bleed air from escaping ducts used in numerous applications, such as bleed valves, anti-icing systems, and air conditioning.
