Notably absent from Sun ’n Fun this year at the Extra booth near the flight line was the Extra 500 six-place, single-engine turbine business aircraft that sells for $1.795 million. The sleek, high-wing carbon-fiber aircraft received its EASA certification three years ago, but has seen delays in the typically straightforward transition from EASA certification to FAA certification.


That appears to be near to a happy ending.


“Recently the FAA and Extra agreed on the final tests that needed to be completed on the aircraft and those have been completed,” Errol Bader, director, corporate development, Extra Aircraft, told AIN at Sun ’n Fun. “The EASA to FAA validation process should be completed in time for Aero Friedrichshafen,” he continued. “The airplane will be there, Walter Extra will be there, and we think we have an understanding and it looks like we are finally through the process,” said Bader.


Extra has sold out of delivery positions for the aircraft through 2013; any new orders will be for 2014 delivery positions, according to Richard Simile, sales representative at Sun ’n Fun.
