Dynon Avionics made several product announcements on the eve of Sun ’n Fun 2013, all designed to integrate, upgrade function and complete the instrument panels of users of Dynon SkyView EFIS.


The company’s SV-COM-C25 is a com radio with 25 khz frequency spacing, two-place stereo intercom and audio control panel for the Dynon SkyView EFIS. The 3.53- by 1.80- by 1.27-inch deep control panel can be oriented either vertically or horizontally, and allows pilots to tune frequencies by airport and station type, rather than by spinning a knob for a number. Other functions in the panel include dual timers, backlight and auto-dimming, one-touch flip-flop with remote trigger ability, transmit and receive indicators (with active/standby receive differentiation) and a stuck mic indicator with transmit time-out. The SV-COM-C25 will be available in June for $1,295. The radio and control panel will operate independently of the EFIS, but relies on the EFIS for setup; it will not work without a Dynon SkyView.


Along with the com radio and control panel the company is introducing an autopilot capable of IFR functions as part of the SkyView 6.0 update. SkyView’s new autopilot features include VNav, indicated airspeed hold, mode sequencing, fully coupled approaches, a flight director with customizable single cue (v-bars) or dual cue (crosshairs) presentation, all designed to enhance the autopilot’s existing heading hold, GPS ground track hold, altitude hold, and control wheel steering. Pilots can also set a “minimums” alert to enhance situational awareness when flying an approach.


To keep VFR pilots from finding the autopilot complicated, Dynon is including a “Simplified/Expert” mode switch. In Expert mode all of the autopilot’s features are available. Simplified mode provides pilots with single-button press function of standard heading and altitude hold for following navigation sources such as GPS flight plans, and track plus altitude hold for flying in the direction and at the altitude they choose. Pilots can flip between Simplified and Expert via the SkyView 6.0 setup menu.


For extra safety, Dynon has also added a new LEVEL button activated from the either the SkyView EFIS’s menu or an external panel mounted button. When the button is pressed, the autopilot will immediately return the aircraft to straight and level flight.


Michael Schofield, Dynon marketing manager, expects the SkyView 6.0 update to be released in June. It will be free for existing SkyView EFIS owners.


To round out its offerings at Sun ’n Fun 2013, Dynon is offering customers who purchase its D1 Pocket Panel, a palm-sized emergency attitude indicator, a $130 rebate. Schofield said, “We want to get the D1 into as many pilots’ flight bags as possible.
