The FAA has launched what it calls “a comprehensive review of the Boeing 787 critical systems, including the design, manufacture and assembly.” The agency said the review will “validate the work conducted during the certification process and further ensure that the aircraft meets the FAA’s high level of safety.” U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the move on January 11. The decision follows a series of mishaps with the long-haul airliner, including an onboard fire, electrical wiring issues and a fuel leak. Boeing has said it has full confidence in the safety of the aircraft.
