Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

Denmark’s Nordic Aviation Capital has signed a firm purchase agreement for 12 Bombardier CRJ1000s, all of which it plans to lease to Garuda Indonesia–<a href="http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/singapore-air-show/2012-02-15/garuda-buys-crj1000s">Bombardier’s previously announced Asian launch customer for the 100-seat jet</a>. Made public in late June, the estimated $595 million deal appears to validate Bombardier’s stated efforts to attract more leasing customers for its regional jets, sales of which have slumped over the past few years primarily due to weakness in the North American market. 
“Nordic Aviation Capital’s order, as well as recent transactions undertaken by other third-party financiers to provide CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft to Air Nostrum of Spain, illustrate that these aircraft present attractive financing and leasing opportunities for airlines and investors,” said Bombardier Commercial Aircraft president Mike Arcamone.
Garuda’s 12 leased CRJ1000s, along with the six the Indonesian airline ordered directly from Bombardier in February, will form a fleet of 18 of the Canadian-made jets.
Based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport near Jakarta, Garuda Indonesia now flies a fleet of 92 aircraft serving 31 domestic and 19 international destinations.
