Comair and the International Association of Machinists (IAM) last month agreed to reinstate the Aviation Safety Action Program (Asap) for the ­company’s mechanics. Comair’s ­mechanics ­withdrew from the original Asap in July, after the IAM charged management with taking ­punitive action against employees who submitted voluntary incident reports under the program. Since then the sides have worked to reach a revised agreement that calls for increased oversight, including a dedicated program ­manager, better communication to ­employees of findings from the Asap safety reports and ­quarterly meetings by IAM, FAA and Comair leaders “to ensure the ongoing success of the program.”
