<p>Matt Thurber, editor-in-chief at AIN Media Group, has been flying since 1975 and writing about aviation since 1978 and now has the best job in the world, running editorial operations for Aviation International News, Business Jet Traveler, and FutureFlight.aero. <p>The next new aircraft development program for Embraer comprises the Legacy 450 and 500, and as initial parts begin manufacture, Embraer is testing manufacturing processes, including quality and maturity tests to assess aircraft equipment under vibration and high-altitude conditions. These tests are conducted in advanced testing chambers at the company’s facilities and at supplier locations. “This procedure will ensure that certain part designs are already mature when the prototypes begin their flight tests,” according to Embraer. The 450/500 fly-by-wire flight controls, Embraer’s first full-FBW system, and the Rockwell Collins Fusion avionics suite are being simulated on rigs and in computers. “Fly-by-wire control laws are tested and verified by pilots and engineers well before any airplane prototype is built,” the company reported. The Legacy 500 is slated to enter service in the second half of 2012, followed a year later by the 450.</p>
