New Zealand’s power solutions provider Cavotec MSL sponsored the A380 Touchdown conference held here in Dubai on November 9 and 10. The conference addressed the technical and business “issues” that airports due to host the Airbus A380 might face. The aircraft entered scheduled commercial service with Singapore Airlines in late October and should join local carrier Emirates in about a year’s time.
Dubai International’s Concourse 2 is the first with dedicated A380 gates, which are served by integrated Cavotec Fladung “pop-up” pits. The company’s range of ground-support equipment (GSE) includes hatch-type pits, aircraft towbars and connectors, and cable coils. 
The airport also is seeking an efficient, environmentally friendly means to service aircraft during turnaround between flights. A recent development is the pre-conditioned air (PCA) caddy, which requires no diesel power. Cavotec claims it is the only PCA unit able to provide sufficient cooling air for aircraft such as the Airbus A330 and A340 and the Boeing 777 in extremely hot conditions.
Cavotec also produces fixed-power systems, by which service is “piped” beneath the airport apron ramp and available through surface hatches. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
